Having an insulated tote is key as it keeps your hands warm and the beverage warm or cold - whichever you prefer. You may machine wash the Neoprene totes and put the bottles in the dishwasher. However, I have found that hand washing both works much better. The dishwasher cannot get into the Kanteens very well. Buy a bottle washing brush at your grocery store. The kleen kanteen is excellent quality, lighter than I thought, and the accompanying tote insulates the water for about 3 hours (longer in colder climates (about 4.5 hours or longer). The only reason I gave the item less than 5 stars is because the kanteen itself leaves a slight metallic taste in the distilled water I put inside it. Also the tote has a very strong odor which took a few weeks to dissipate. Overall, this is a very clean, safe, and smart alternative to the sig bottles I've used in the past. I have peace of mind knowing that I am not drinking out of an aluminum bottle, nor a bottle with some coating which contains chemicals I cannot even pronounce.
