This cap is worthless. It made my water taste bad (whereas the original 'sport cap' never did), so I removed the silicone o-ring and put the cap in the dishwasher, thinking it had some coffee residue on it or something.
After I took it out of the dishwasher, I could hear water sloshing around _inside_ of it! It appears to be completely impermeable - there are no apparent holes in it. Nevertheless it has water inside of it, with no evident way to get the water out.
The 'sport cap' that came with my Kleen Kanteen is hollowed out, like an upside-down cup - there is no bottom. This low-profile cap is hollow but has a bottom - it has a continuous outer surface like a fishing bobber or something.
Clearly they need to work on their quality-control. Avoid this cap like the worthless POS that it is.

I have had 2 Klean Kanteens for over 2 years and I didn't want any plastic touching my water. I have been using the original lids that came with the Kanteens=pull up plastic sport lids. I love the new lids!

The Klean Kanteen Sport Cap leaked after 2 weeks of use. The tiny plastic plug used as a valve fell out. This also occurred with 2 other Klean Kanteen Caps which I purchased with a thermos. Something has changed with the quality of the caps. I also have Klean Kanteen thermoses with the flat top caps. The top part of the caps have actually separated from the bottom section of the caps. I now have 7 Klean Kanteens, one for each family member, with only 2 working caps.

This bottle top was the original bottle top on the Klean Kanteens, but now the company puts an all plastic version of the original on the top of newly purchased bottles. The new plastic version always leaks when my kids use this bottle, so I have to pay an additional 10 to get the original tops. The company also moved the manufacturing of this bottle to Ch. I did not realize this until after we purchased the new versions.

I purchased 2 of this caps to replace the plastic ones that came with our Kleen Kanteens... The first thing that bothered me was the caps had a CHEAP feeling and a big sticker that read "MADE IN CHINA". After about a week of use (or less) both caps broke apart, yes, the plastic top detached from the metal part.
I DO NOT recommend this item... Purchase at your own risk -
I hope this helps.
