Product Description

Ever since we designed the first Klean Kanteen, some customers have been asking for a bottle with an extra wide opening. Outdoor enthusiasts who used polycarbonate wide-mouth bottles for years wanted a BPA- and toxin-free stainless steel bottle with a wide mouth for easy filling, pouring and cleaning that worked with a water filter. The Klean KanteenTM Wide is our answer. Its made from the same high quality, food-grade stainless steel as every other Klean Kanteen but with an opening thats 2.125 inches in diameter. Our goal at Klean Kanteen has always been to make our reusable bottles from healthy, recyclable, food-grade stainless steel thats durable enough to last years. Most other water bottle companies, even the ones making stainless steel bottles, use plastic or aluminum threads and caps because its cheaper and easier.

"Kleen Kateen....you got to love it" 2009-09-17
By Rick Braitsch (Westchester, CA United States)
I did my share of research prior to moving forward with the Kleen Kanteen. I read almost all the reviews...including many that claimed the taste of the liquid from the Kanteen tasted like metal. I must agree with part of the statement as the first three times I used the Kanteen my drink did taste like metal. Having worked in the restaurant industry for may years with stainless steel, I had a theory. So I did a little experiment. I put some water in the Kanteen and let it sit for a while. I took two drinks: the first drink involved putting my lips around the rim and taking drink. The second, using a straw and taking a drink. The first drink did taste metallic. However, the second drink did not....at all. So my conclusion was the taste was coming from the rim of the Kanteen. But the metallic taste from the rim only lasted for about three uses. My forth time I used it, no metallic taste as all...even drinking it from the rim. You got to love that.

How do I clean it? I hand wash it using regular dish detergent (Dawn) and hot water. I rinse it thoroughly a few time with hot water and a final rinse with cold water. I wash both the inside and outside. I never put it in the dishwasher as I have seen what the dishwater detergent does to stainless over time.

Overall, I am very happy with my Kleen Kanteen. I plan on buying a 60oz one soon.

"Klean Kanteen: Clean and Simple" 2009-08-05

I used a Sigg bottle for over a year but decided to switch when it became frustrating to clean the yellow metal rings where the cap screws into the mouth of the bottle, as well as the thin white spongy ring piece in the cap. When it looked like mold was forming and I couldn't scrub it off, it was time for a change!

So I've chosen the new 18 oz wide mouth model of Klean Kanteen as my new H20 sidekick.

Pros:

1. The wide mouth is a little over 2 inches so you can see clearly right into the bottom of the bottle (to make sure it's clean).

2. The rings of the mouth is all stainless steel like the bottle and it's easy to clean in-between the few rings there are (it takes only two full turns to unscrew the cap).

3. There's no questionable lining in the bottle like Sigg. It's all stainless steel, baby!

4. The base of the bottle is the same as their regular bottles so it'll still fit the in car cup holder, etc.

5. I like the uniform cylindrical shape. Classy!

Cons:

1. Though the of the bottle cap is stainless steel (so that your water never touches plastic) I didn't like that it was plastic that was screwing over the mouth of the bottle. Would the thread last? Also, I can foresee the cap being slightly hard to scrub in the thin deep cavity between the stainless steel and plastic parts (see picture of cap interior to know what I mean).
